We're Addicted to Oil

February 29, 2007

No, not the oil that you put into your car, this country is addicted to greasy, fattening and deep fried junk food. When you think of fast food, the biggest and baddest player is obviously McDonald's. Did you know that ever since the company went public in 1965, it has only posted a loss in one quarter?

That means that in the last 43 years, McDonald's has only lost money once and that was in a single three month period. For the other 513 month's of its public existence, McDonald's consistently posted profits. That's awesome for the people who own the company's stock, but what does it say about the health choices we're making as Americans?

I'm not trying to say that you should avoid fast food 100% of the time, but there are some people that eat fast food way too much (more than a few times per week) and if that's you, you need to slow down a bit.

These days you can get a healthier meal from fast food restaurants. They have salads, wraps, chicken sandwiches and even fruit. You can pack your own lunch or go to a deli for even healthier food. With health care costs already very high, you can't afford to eat cheap food anymore. Have it as a treat on a cheat day not as a meal everyday.
