Incase you haven't heard, Governor Blagojevich of Illinois was arrested today after the FBI found out he was basically corrupt. Among other charges, Governor Blagojevich is accused of trying to sell President-Elect Obama's vacant Senate seat to the highest bidder.

He actually still has the power to appoint Obama's Senate replacement until he either steps down or is impeached. I wonder how he'll make the decision while he's in jail. Something you may be wondering is how he's going to stay in shape while he's locked up.

A lot of people have the same problem that Governor Blagojevich has, minus the corruption and jail part. They want to get in shape and increase their muscle mass but don't want to (or can't) join a gym. Don't worry because getting into shape doesn't necessarily require a gym membership.

Governor Blagojevich's Prison WorkoutJust look at any documentary shot inside a jail. Most of the guys look like they've been working out quite a bit. The secret to their success is time. When you're in jail (not that I would know, I'm assuming) you don't have the freedom to really do anything you want. You do what you're told and when you do have some moments of free time, they're spent working out, simply because there isn't much else to do.

If you were locked up and didn't have a family to look after, dishes to clean or a job that you really cared about, wouldn't you have a lot of free time to workout? If you want to get into shape like the guys in jail, you can either commit a crime (which I don't recommend) or take the following steps:

  • 1. Start running - even if it isn't very long distances, running can burn huge amount of calories which will eventually get your body fat percentage down making you look lean and toned.
  • 2. Pick up a sport - basketball is a popular sport in jail and it's an excellent workout. There's a lot of action which is the reason that like running, it burns a lot of energy.
  • 3. Do push ups, sit ups, dips and pull ups - these four exercises will hit every muscle group in your upper body. The chest, triceps, biceps, back and shoulders are all involved. Keep a log and try to do more and more each time. What's the best part about these exercises? There are no weights to set up and you can do them in your house or in a park - this workout will take a lot less time than going to a gym.

There you have it, three steps to get you into prison shape. Governor Blagojevich, if you're reading this, I hope you take this workout with you to jail and have a good time in there getting into shape.
